Moodley, Pillay & Associates
At Moodley Pillay and Associates Biokinetics (MPA Biokinetics), we believe that science and compassion go hand in hand when it comes to health and recovery. Founded in 2023 by Philo Moodley and Calandra Pillay, our practice grew out of personal journeys that shaped not just careers, but a shared philosophy: to meet people where they are and guide them toward healthier, stronger lives.
We specialize in personalized, evidence-based exercise programs that address everything from injury rehabilitation to chronic condition management and overall wellness. What sets us apart is our commitment to empathy—our approach begins with putting ourselves in your shoes so we can understand your challenges and goals.
MPA Biokinetics is more than a practice—it’s a space where passion meets purpose, and science meets heart.
MEET PHILO
Biokineticist & Co-Founder
For Philo, sport was always more than just competition—it was a way of life. Growing up in Port Elizabeth and attending Grey High School, he was part of the A cricket team, but his personal struggle with obesity in high school became a turning point. By transforming his own health, he not only reclaimed his spot in the team but also discovered a deep interest in fitness and the science of performance.
After completing his Honours degree in Biokinetics at Nelson Mandela University, Philo gained hands-on experience during his internship at Francois Swanepoel Biokinetics in Mossel Bay. His career then took him around the world as a Fitness Director on Holland America cruise ships, before he established his first practice in Johannesburg in 2019.
The challenges of the pandemic led him to Discovery, where he met Calandra, who would become both his wife and business partner. In 2023, they returned to Port Elizabeth to open MPA Biokinetics together. Today, Philo channels his journey of discipline and resilience into helping clients overcome their own barriers to health.
MEET CALANDRA
Biokineticist & Co-Founder
Calandra’s path into biokinetics was inspired by a growing awareness of how vital movement and wellness are to living a balanced life. While she wasn’t especially active as a child, her appreciation for health, injury prevention, and fitness grew stronger with time. This passion led her to pursue a career in biokinetics, where she found a unique blend of sports, science, and care.
Her curiosity extended into research, driving her to complete a Master’s Degree in Biokinetics with a focus on evidence-based methods for rehabilitation and performance. Over the years, Calandra has developed a special interest in working with children, particularly in helping those with low muscle tone and strength, and in using hydrotherapy as a powerful tool for recovery.
She brings both expertise and empathy to her role at MPA Biokinetics, ensuring that every client receives care rooted in science and tailored to their individual needs.
